All SN Preludes shared 3 similar variations of VIN numbers from the factory depending on your year and what country you were in.

- The United States 10 & 17 digit VIN #'s are known and recorded below from the Honda Parts Book.
- Japan seems to be the only country using a 9 digit VIN in all four years.
- European countries including Canada & Australia seem to use the 17 digit from 1980-82 while '79 is the 9 digit variation. The 9 digit variation also doesn't seem to specify the year the car was made in like the US 10 digit VIN (although the Japanese 9 digit VIN does). For example, the US has SN-F2000001 with the "2" representing 1980 or "1" for 1979. A European VIN for example, SN-8000001 has an "8". The European Shop Manual doesn't show any specification for the number "8", only that's it's part of the Unit Production Number. More information is needed form the shop manuals.

Examples of the 10 digit VIN Plate. (Even though this is Japanese, it still has the same layout as others)

Very useful but it doesn't match mine... there's an "A" between the JHM and the SN, and the year "C" is 1982 though my car is registered as 1981. It's an EL version, imported from japan.

JHMASN5220C110***

Any ideas?
